The Greedy Dog

One sunny afternoon, a hungry dog stumbled upon a juicy bone lying on the ground. His tail wagged with excitement as he picked it up, thrilled at the thought of his perfect meal. The bone was big, juicy, and oh-so-satisfying. “This is going to be delicious!” he thought, deciding to carry it home to enjoy in peace.

On his way back, the dog came to a bridge over a sparkling river. As he trotted across, he happened to glance down and saw something that stopped him in his tracks—a reflection. But to the dog, it wasn’t just a reflection. It was another dog staring back at him, holding an even bigger bone in its mouth!

Greed lit up in the dog’s eyes. “That bone is better than mine!” he thought. “I want that one too!”

Without a second thought, the dog barked loudly, hoping to scare the “other dog” and grab both bones. But as he opened his mouth to bark, the bone in his jaws slipped out, tumbling into the river below. He watched in shock as the current swept it away, leaving him with nothing.

The dog stood there, staring at the empty water, his heart sinking. His greed for what wasn’t real had cost him the bone he already had. If only he had been content, he would have enjoyed a wonderful meal. Instead, he was left hungry and full of regret.

Moral: Greed can make you lose what you already have.
